Profile: Lion of Judah – Israel

Lion of Judah-Israel (LOJI) is a foundation comprised of women who are dedicated to contributing to Israeli society-- through philanthropy and social action -- to the advancement and empowerment of women and girls in Israeli society.

LOJI is the local affiliate of international Lion of Judah, a philanthropic organization numbering 16,000 Jewish women worldwide, who are dedicated to Jewish causes in their home communities and to Israel. In Israel we operate under the auspices of “The Spirit of Israel”, which is affiliated with the Jewish Agency for Israel.

LOJI members each contribute funds that are used to support projects that enable women and girls in distress to live better lives. LOJI serves as a platform for “venture philanthropy,” through which we choose the areas and projects that best support our goals.

We are the only women’s philanthropic organization in Israel in which members financially support, initiate, choose and monitor the projects they support.

Our members thus share the satisfaction of knowing that the funds they contribute have a real impact on helping new immigrants and disadvantaged girls and women learn critical life skills, acquire capabilities for economic independence and develop community leadership abilities.

Moreover, we often “receive” much more than we give, by getting to know the women and girls whose lives have been dramatically changed through our work.

As members of a global network, LOJI is also dedicated to nurturing relations with Jewish women around the world. We conduct joint projects in Israel with Jewish women’s organizations in overseas communities. We also bring Israel’s message to Lion of Judah members abroad, by attending international conferences, hosting women’s missions in Israel, speaking at events and writing articles about our work in Israel.
